Classic Queenslander’s challenge with the Fraser residence was to design a house that blended into its environment of tall rainforest timber and still be seen and be attractive from the road without being over shadowed by the forest.

Working closely with Kate her special family needs were for a large home featuring a lot of timber. Kate’s solution was a timber loft style home not unlike the lofts Classic Queenslanders designed and built in the 90’s. The outside cladding is Western Red Cedar weather boards and features a very steeply pitched colourbond roof (Wilderness). Beautiful Cedar windows compliment the appearance of this magnificent rustic mountain retreat. The retreat is designed as a large house to accommodate comfortably their extended family. There are also plans for a couple of timber cabins dotted thru the bush for guests to also appreciate this beautiful rainforest and retreat.

The home has extensive verandahs around and varying widths thus creating private “outdoor rooms” and provides vistas around the property and of course protection to walls and windows from the elements. The verandahs are supported by large treated pine logs to give it some bulk and not look like the house is sitting on tooth picks.

The large welcoming foyer has enough room for a writing desk and features a timber staircase to the master bedroom and private living room above. The entry then leads into the dining room and lounge.

The living area and formal dining room a quite large and feature a high vaulted ceiling and magnificent picture window looking over the bush to the north. The large kitchen with a central bench makes meals preparation less of a chore because of the abundance of bench space.

To the left off the entry are 3 generous guest bedrooms, a large laundry, guest bathroom and a toilet catering for the disabled. Above, the main bedroom and bathroom lead out onto their own verandah looking over rolling farmland as all of the rooms have verandahs directly off them and afford magnificent views over the forest and farm land.

“Greensmart” House design features have been used incorporated into the design and construction of the home, i.e. materials used are sustainable and plantation grown.

Classic Queenslanders are an accredited HIA “Greensmart” Professional.
